Offshore Wind
We worked to pass the California’s first law setting up offshore wind in the state (AB 525). We worked with the California Energy Commission for the state to set concrete goals of getting 3-5GWs of offshore wind by 2030 and 25 gigawatts by 2045 (this would make us the state with the most offshore wind in the country). We helped to pass the legislation that will ensure that the producers of offshore wind energy have a market to sell their electricity. This year we are working to ensure the state puts a climate bond on the November ballot to raise funds for critical conservation issues and helps to redevelop our ports so they can do the work necessary to bring our offshore wind goals to fruition.
We have passed legislation to continue the state's leadership role in solar power. Specifically, we passed legislation that will get the state to review the options for putting solar panels along the sides of highways. This energy could be used to power local communities and electric cars. We have also worked to increase incentives for solar on parking lots, schools, warehouses and other disturbed land. This would give us the clean energy and help protect beautiful places.
